The New Science of Personal Achievement by Anthony Robbins

I have a very old copy of this book – cover totally unlike the one seen here. I am not going to summarize his personal powers ideas in here. The chapter that I like best is actually Chapter X – Energy : The Fuel of Excellence. It actually talks about the type of food and breathing one should do to improve one’s health.

You can change your internal representations all day long, if your biochemistry is messed up, it’s going to make the brain create distorted representations. In this chapter, he gives six keys to a powerful, indomitable physiology.

1. The Power of Breath

Breathing controls the way you fully oxygenate the body and thus stimulate the electrical process of each and every cell. You should breathe in this ratio : inhale one count, hold four counts, exhale two counts. Why exhale for twice as long as you inhale? That’s when you eliminate toxins via your lymphatic system. Take 10 of these deep breaths 3X a day and you’ll experience a dramatic improvement in the level of your health .

2. Eating water-rich foods

When too little fluid is supplied, the blood maintains a higher specific gravity and the poisonous waste products of tissue or cell change are only cast off very imperfectly. The body is therefore, poisoned by its own excretions.

3. Principle of effective food combining

Different types of food require different types of digestive juices, and not all digestive juices are compatible. Starchy foods (rice, bread, potatoes, and so on) require alkaline digestive medium. Protein foods (meat, dairy, nuts, seeds) require an acid medium for digestion.

Based on the law of chemistry, the two contrary mediums (acid and alkali) cannot work at the same time. They neutralize each other. If you eat a protein with a starch, digestion is impaired or completely arrested. Undigested food becomes soil for bacteria, which ferment and decompose it, giving rise to digestive disorders and gas.

4. Law of controlled consumption

Eat less, live more. If you want to eat large quantities of food, you can. Just make sure they’re water rich foods. You can eat a whole lot more salad than you can steak and remain vibrant and healthy.

5. Principle of effective fruit consumption

Fruit is the most perfect food. It takes the least amount of energy to digest and gives your body the most in return. You must always eat druit on an empty stomach. The reason is that fruit digests in the small intestine. Fruit is designed to go through the stomach in a few minutes and into the intestines, where it releases its sugars. But if there is meat or potatoes or starch in the stomach, the fruit gets trapped there and begins to ferment.

6. Protein myth

You don’t need a high-protein diet to maintain optimum health and well-being. Cut your intake of meat. Make your new maximum one serving of meal per day. You know what Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Volataire, Henry David Thoreau, George Bernard Shaw, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Dr Albert Schweitzer, Mahatma Gandhi have in common? They were all vegetarians.
